Hello my friends and welcome to VolgSMU!

Volgograd State Medical University which opened in 1935 is one of the first specialized medical universities in Russia.

Our university’s mission ever since its establishment has been to prepare highly competetive specialists for the healthcare industry globally, something that has not altered over time.

Our university is greatly known both in the Russian borders and internationally. This is the place students receive higher education from the classical Russian school of medicine which is sought after in numerous nations across the globe.

Our university has been training foreign students in various medical disciplines since 1962. Currently, more than four thousand five hundred graduates are VolgSMU alumni and they work in 127 countries across the world.

Volgograd Medical University is also well known due to the scientific schools, the inventions and other developments of scientists.

A surgeon, transplantologist and a man-legend Anatoly Georgievich Konevsky was the first who made the university famous in the whole world. He invented a fundamentally new neurophysiological approach to the issue of organ transplantation.

Konevsky invented some outstandings device in his time, like a telemetry system for ECG tracking via telephone, which was a prototype of modern telemedicine, as well as a heart tracking device for pilots during flight and stress. Koval telemetry system is one of his inventions too. Konevsky made outstanding breakthroughs in medicine.

VolgSMU also is well known for their pharmacology scientific school. Employees of the university have contributed greatly in developing many well known domestic drugs which are already in use, such as cardiac drugs that improve body tolerance, analgesics, antidiabetic, nootropic, and antiplatelet medicines.

Scientists of volgSMU have been working on exoskeleton creation lately.

Among such innovations is the first passive exoskeleton of the upper extremities system “EXAR” developed in Russia, as well as the lower jaw exoskeleton awarded “100 best inventions of Russia” diploma. This special device helps people suffering from static load positional changes, thus preventing work-related disease, an area previously unexplored by medicine. To this end the endo surgeon’s exoskeleton, and neurosurgeon’s exoskeleton were created. A multifunctional personal protection system “Venets-34” was developed (intended for efficient filtration of contaminated air) and has civilian applications, as well as professional ones.

These are only a portion of the major accomplishments which are the pride of the university. Those of you who want to contribute to medicine and health and are interested in modern research or wish to train in one of the many programs at the institute and college of VolgSMU, we encourage you to study here and carry on the traditions of this university.

We look forward to seeing you in Volgograd!

V.V. Shkarin, Rector of VolgSMU
